Job Title: Workshop Coordinator
Location: Wenke Greenhouses, Kalamazoo MI
Employment Type: Part-time Seasonal from April – October
Reports To: Retail Store Manager

Job Summary: Wenke Greenhouses is seeking a dynamic and creative Workshop Coordinator to manage and execute engaging workshops and educational classes for both adults and children. The ideal candidate will have a passion for workshop planning and presentation, excellent organizational skills, and, preferably, a love for gardening and plants. This role is focused solely on workshops and educational experiences, working collaboratively with the Event Coordinator when necessary but would not be responsible for larger-scale events. Must have a flexible schedule and be available nights and weekends.

Responsibilities:

  • Schedule and lead workshops which usually take place during evenings and weekends.
  • Develop, plan, and coordinate engaging workshops and educational classes that connect customers to Wenke Greenhouses and inspire interest in plants and gardening.
  • Create and facilitate fun, educational, and age-appropriate workshops specifically for children.
  • Design workshops that utilize the resources and materials available within the greenhouse to minimize costs and maximize creativity.
  • Collaborate with experts and guest instructors as needed.
  • Work with the marketing team to ensure effective advertising and community outreach.
  • Prepare materials, set up event spaces, and ensure all supplies are available and ready for use.
  • Monitor workshop budgets to ensure profitability.
  • Track participant feedback and attendance to assess workshop success.
  • Ensure a safe, welcoming, and enjoyable environment for all participants.
  • Assist the Event Coordinator, when necessary, particularly in cases where workshop components are part of a larger event.

Qualifications:

  • Experience in workshop and educational class planning, education, or customer service.
  • Strong knowledge and passion for gardening, plants, and nature desired but not required.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
  • Comfortable speaking in front of groups and leading classes.
  • Basic proficiency with computer applications for registration management and promotion.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in coordinating workshops or educational programs.
  • Experience in a retail, garden center, or greenhouse setting

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift and move materials (up to 25 pounds) for workshop setup and teardown.
  • Comfortable working in a greenhouse environment, including exposure to varying temperatures and outdoor conditions.
