If you’d like to add a touch of “green” to your home, here are some beautiful plants that will fit right in with the rest of your Christmas decorations and brighten the holidays. Whether purchased for yourself or as gifts for teachers, special friends, or someone who can’t get out much anymore, the colorful blooms sing silent songs of joy. Use them for decorating by bunching them together in groups of reds, pinks, and whites. Place in the entry way, on the dining table, or anywhere that could use a spot of Christmas color. Dwarf Alberta spruce make ideal miniature Christmas trees perfect for those who don’t have room for a big tree.

Amaryllis can make a statement as a centerpiece on the table. Tall and graceful, its trumpet-like huge flowers look like they are harking the Christmas holidays.

Cyclamen is of the most charming flowering plants available to indoor gardeners in winter. Cyclamen has heart-shaped, silver-veined leaves and pretty blooms in bright crayon colors. It is easy to grow and they make excellent Christmas decorations around the home or office.

Christmas cactus is a festive, vibrant holiday plant known for its colorful tubular flowers. It is easy to care for and can be grown indoors throughout the year. Christmas cactus make the best long-term houseplant so don’t throw them out when they are done blooming. Many are passed down from generation to generation.

Kalanchoe are long-flowering plants have large flower heads in red and white. The flowers are so profuse that they obscure the leaves. They tolerate warm temperatures better than most plants and can bloom for months.

Poinsettias  have long been associated with Christmas and add beauty and warmth to any home during the holiday season. Poinsettias are a tropical plant with long-lived bracts (vivid color leaves) and golden yellow flowers.

Rosemary will fill your home with natural beauty and fragrance this holiday and can be used to add seasoning to your favorite recipes.  A few centuries ago, rosemary was part of the Nativity story in that Baby Jesus’ clothes were dried on a rosemary bush. Christians then believed that smelling rosemary at Christmas brought good luck.

Dwarf Alberta Spruce is a perfect cone shaped evergreen displaying dense gray green needles which are soft to the touch. The slow growth of this conifer make it an excellent choice as a tub plant or miniature Christmas tree if kept tightly clipped.

Variegated Holly is the most desirable Holly! Dark, shiny green leaves with creamy white margins and bright red berries in the winter. Holly looks lovely with poinsettias at Christmas, red carnations in February, daffodils in March, tulips in May, and at Thanksgiving with pumpkins and grapes. The combinations are endless, because it is so versatile.

Lavender Tree is perfect for infusing your living space with a fresh, clean scent this holiday season. Lavender has a unique gray, blue and green color, and can be used for cooking and baking.
